an ugly or unattractive person. The image is of a person who could only be considered as a sexual partner if his or her face were covered. The expression, first heard in the 1960s, probably orig-inated in US high-school or campus usage; it enjoyed a vogue among school-boys in Britain in 1968 and 1969.
